1 down, 2 to go...

You guessed it, I killed another fish :/ SHOCKERRR. But, the other 2 are hanging in there! All of my days are running together…I go to sleep on Sunday night and then I wake up and it’s already Friday! I’m not saying that I don’t mind the school week going by fast, but weekends go by even faster :( I started taking prenatal vitamins and biotin both because everyone claims they are the medicine to making your hair grow…we shall see soon enough, I’m praying that they are right! I forgot to mention that 2 weekends ago, Cody and I went to eat dinner at Salsa Brava on Saturday night because we were craving fajitas….fail. Nothing will measure up to Casa Mexicana or Rancho Grande, who would’ve known that Mississippi would have such amazing Mexican food? This past Friday, I made taco salad for Cody and I…it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t exceptionally good either so on Saturday, we picked up Taco Bell for dinner. We just can’t seem to get enough Mexican, darn Colorado!

There was a football game on Saturday…Melissa and I met some girls there and then Cody and other cadets came to sit with us. It was the perfect temperature and I got my tan on….I’m absolutely loving this 70s-80s weather! On Sunday, Cody and I went to lunch at Mimi’s CafĂ©…we had never been there before but it was really good...a little pricey and lacking rolls, but good! Afterwards, we walked around the mall some and hit up Coldstone. Then, we went to Cottonwood Creek Park to play disc golf but the course was so packed! Who knew Coloradans had even heard of disc golf, I mean after all you can’t play it while riding a long board or anything….so that was a fail, we didn’t want to wait in a long line just to play a round so we went to a ski and golf shop and entertained ourselves for awhile and then headed to Target to pick up a basketball. When we got back, we played some games like old times since there is a goal right outside my apartment. We were just lacking Matthew! I killed in Horse twice but Cody beat me one on one, shockerrrrr.  He cheats, haha :)

There was a Rivermonsters marathon on so that consumed the rest of our night…thank goodness that dumb Hillbilly Handfishing show gave it a rest for a single Sunday night! I had a huge paper due and a test today, I even took my notes to study during the football game but procrastination got the best of me so I was up late last night…it happens, right? Only 2 and a half more years left, yayyy!

Tonight, Melissa and I went to a place called Back East Bar and Grill for dinner….she was dying for some New York food so we had a date! It’s supposed to be hotter here most of this week than it is at home so I’m not complaining! I can’t wait for basketball season to start so I can go to some games on weeknights, soccer and volleyball don’t quite interest me as much when I’m just watching! I know I've said this before, but the sunsets here are amazing and I get the privilege of taking pictures like this out of my apartment window :)

Time is Flying

Wow! I’ve already been here for a month and 1 week! In a way it seems like forever but when I think about it, I want everything to slow down! If I leave in December, I’ve already been here for ¼ of my time! I booked my flight home for Thanksgiving….64 days until I am back in the 662! My weeks constantly consist of class, sleep, food and Walmart. Yes, I have applied for some jobs but I haven’t had any luck but I haven't tried…I’m kind of okay with that as of now so I haven't tried too hard. I decided to work out some last week and make myself useful, I’m going to try to make a habit of that, especially since it’s getting cold fast and I won’t be spending much time outside. I whipped out the Uggs this week….hahah I know what you’re thinking but it was cold, I swear! And yes, my electric blanket has been used multiple times. I’m so glad Santa brought that to me last year! The nights get down in the low 40s, so the mornings are a bit chilly but overall, it’s not bad! I got these furry slippers to keep my toes warm :)
Last week it rained for 2 days straight and there was crazy fog…it’s worse here than I’ve ever seen it but Cody said that it was even worse at USAFA. This weekend, Cody and I went to a tent sale for ski/snowboard gear….it got me excited for the season to start, even though I’m sure I’ll be on my butt alot! On Friday, I cooked dinner for Cody and I….porkchops, lima beans and pasta. As my roommate would say, I PREPARED dinner haha but whatever, I made it and it was successful! I’ll be 20 in 28 days woahhh. I was also informed that there's a good chance it could snow by the time that I am 20 yiiikes! There's already snow on Pike's Peak...

I watched State play LSU on Thursday and wanted to cry a little...my uncle sends me updates when I don't get to see the game, so I'm always in the loop! Not much all that exciting has happened recently, there’s a football game next weekend and then I think that Cody and I are going to hang out with some of his friends and their girlfriend(s) so like every Sunday night, I can’t wait until Friday!

Here and There

So, it's safe to say I’m slacking on this whole blogging thing…I just enjoy sleep waaayyy too much these days, haha.

August 31st-September 8th
Wednesday through Friday of 2 weeks ago were the longest school days ever….and it was the 2nd week of school, haha. It was just because I knew that I had a very long and busy weekend awaiting me and none of my roommates have classes on Friday so I’m the only one setting an alarm Thursday night. Overall, my classes are alright. I’m taking a significantly less load than last year so by all means, it should be easier but some of my professors aren’t exactly my favorite. After my morning classes, sometimes I go lay in the grass by my apartment to take a nap and get tan. The sun is so strong here – an hour is plenty so that’s nice! Friday morning September 2nd, Melissa and I woke up super early to pick up Alex from the airport and take her to USAFA. We barely made it in time for the parade so we stayed for about 20min before I had to head back to go to class. In the excitement of the day, I accidentally wore open-toed shoes to my micro lab which is definitely not allowed so my wonderful roommate brought me tennis shoes just in time…they looked super hot with my dress, haha. After class, Melissa and I went up to USAFA to give Alex her luggage and join in on some of the parents weekend fun aka hardcore people watch by the chapel and in Arnold hall.

At the end of the day, we went to an open house for Cody’s squad and then went out to Bird Dog’s BBQ for dinner. I went back to the house that Cody’s family rented for the weekend to play some pool and watch TV with them before I went back to UCCS. On Saturday, there was a USAFA football game. I went early to tailgate with Cody and Melissa made lots of cookies for his squad for me to take. Homemade cookies, might I add! I hung out with Alex and Stephen since Stephen and Cody are in the same squad…it was great to get to see her so often!
Cody gets to sit with me during most of the games so that’s nice. Our seats are in the end zone and we usually sit in the 3rd row so it’s sweet being close to the field! USAFA won but I was definitely more excited about my MSU bulldogs whoopin up on Memphis, haha GO DAWGS! Since all of the games aren’t broadcasted here, my uncle sends me SEC game updates so he keeps me in the loop :) Saturday night, Melissa and I went to Stephen’s sponsor’s house with Alex and some of his friends so that was good for a change!
On Sunday, there was the Colorado Classic Balloon Festival so hot air balloons filled the sky...it was neat! I went with Cody’s family to the Royal Gorge. It was pretty cool…the wind was blowing like crazy and the bridge was shaking and swaying really bad so that was a little creepy! On the way, we stopped by some fossil beds and watched some prairie dogs play around.

That night, we ate at a China Buffet….you never know with Chinese food places but after calling over 8 restaurants in the Springs trying to find a buffet open until at least 9pm on a Sunday, Great China Buffet was a success! Cody ate a whole baby octopus but I wasn’t so brave. It actually looked like an octopus…yuck. Cody
spent most of Monday making a
cornhole game for his squad and then his family cooked out steaks before he had to go back. Needless to say, I was delighted to join! I showed Cody’s mom my campus and my apartment so it was good to spend some time with her. Alex spent Monday night with us and we ate cookies and made paper chains of a countdown until Christmas and a countdown until Alex comes back to Colorado! I woke up at 4am to take her to the airport on Tuesday, but we didn’t have classes so I enjoyed sleeping and being lazy all day after that! I visited Cody on Wednesday for a little while in between flag football and handball. We went to Burger King on base to get me an ICEE :) Even thought it wasn’t for very long, it’s still great to be able to see him so often.

September 9-Now
On Friday, Melissa and I went to the mall. Probably for the 3rd time this week…don’t judge! The bad news is I killed all of my fish but the good news is that I got 3 goldfish…well, 2 are white…on Friday and they are still alive! Every time we go to the mall, we have to fight off going in the pet store because they have so many puppies…we both want one sooo sooo bad! This past weekend was a silver weekend which means that it is a training weekend and the cadets have a 12am curfew on Fridays and usually things to do that afternoon so I went to get Cody on Friday around 7pm which is after visiting hours. Typically, that isn’t a big deal….Cody calls the gate to tell them that I’m coming. I show them my license, insurance and registration and move on but since their security level was bravo because of 9/11, they were doing full background checks and it took a bit longer than usual. I finally got through and after picking up Cody, we headed to O’Malley’s in Palmer Lake, CO to celebrate one of Cody’s friends’ 21st birthday.
They have 21 shots for $50 plus a t-shirt and random things added in so Cody bought him that and we had a fun night with everyone! Taking Cody back to USAFA is never a problem, but leaving seems to be a consistent issue…Friday night I tried to go out of north gate which is the same gate I had come in 5 minutes before and it was locked down cones and everything so I went to south gate and managed to wait in a long line of cars since those gates were shut too. They finally let us out but when it’s late and you’re tired, the distance between north and south gate on base is a long way!

Melissa and I went to the game on Saturday.

I met up with Cody while she did her Hooters’ thing and then we hung out when she was finished. TCU was killing USAFA so it wasn’t the most fun game to watch. We went to dinner at Applebee’s and got the appetizer + 2 entrees for $20. It was the first time I have ever had wings (we got the honey

bbq wings for our appetizer) and I loved them! We watched the movie “The Rite” and it was so scary…exorcism freaks me out! We went to lunch at the China Buffet on Sunday…I’ve been on a shrimp fried rice kick nom nom nommm. We shopped a little and came back to watch football and another movie – “Insidious”. It was scary too, I’d definitely recommend it!

As I was walking into my apartment tonight, these lovely creatures were chillin by my car. It amazes me how chill they are around people all of the time! Although I dread another week of school, I had a great weekend and I can’t wait until the next one!
